Install

Install AutoDev from the Visual Studio Marketplace, open a folder, and open the panel. The extension carries everything it needs, and updates arrive on their own.

Install from the Marketplace #

AutoDev is the extension stefanolabs.autodev-vscode on the Visual Studio Marketplace. In VS Code, open Extensions, search for AutoDev, and choose Install.

The extension is self-contained: it carries the engine and its dependencies. There is nothing else to download and no npm install to run. New versions arrive through VS Code's own extension updates.

AutoDev needs VS Code 1.90 or newer, an agent CLI that is installed and signed in, and Windows. Requirements lists all of it, and what happens without each part.

Or from a terminal #

This installs the same extension:

code --install-extension stefanolabs.autodev-vscode

If you installed AutoDev earlier from a .vsix file, uninstall that one first. It has a different ID, autodev.autodev-vscode, and the two would both claim the same view and commands.

Open a folder #

AutoDev is bound to a folder: with no folder open, its panel says Open a folder to get started. and does nothing else. Open your project folder, then open the panel from the AutoDev icon in the activity bar, or from the command palette:

Verify the install #

The extension adds an AutoDev view to the activity bar and two commands to the command palette: AutoDev: Open and AutoDev: Show the tour. If the view opens, the extension is installed. The first time it opens, a short tour of the panel starts.
